Recent TV shows have popularized the fast, heat-activated bleaching techniques, such as “Zoom” whitening. While the results seen on Extreme Makeovers are nice and achieved quickly, they don’t show the post-op care. Current dental literature reviews report an overwhelming conclusion concerning the rapid heat bleach and the extreme sensitivity that can occur when heat is delivered in too rapid a treatment. Some teeth have even been so traumatized, the nerve was killed, and the tooth required root canal treatment.
